The 8-cylinder engine with 4.7 litres displacement in the new GL-Class has lower fuel consumption and untreated emissions. And so as not to have to make sacrifices through the "downsizing" process in this vehicle segment where torque and output are concerned, the engine is combined with exhaust-gas turbocharging and direct injection. Compared to the drive system in the predecessor model, torque has been increased by approx. 32 percent and output by approx. 12 percent.
The GL 63 AMG 4MATIC's new AMG V8 engine with biturbo charging in conjunction with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission is impressive both for its exciting dynamism and for its extraordinary efficiency.
On the one hand, this combination is able to provide a stirring driving experience thanks to a rated output of 410 kilowatts and a maximum torque of 760 newton metres. On the other hand, it allows a reduction in fuel consumption thanks to direct petrol injection with spray-guided combustion, twin turbochargers, alternator management and the Controlled Efficiency driving mode with the ECO start/stop function.
